Headaches and Migraines

If you are one of the many people who suffer from migraines or frequent headaches you may be clenching or grinding your teeth at night. Most of us clench or grind our teeth at night to some extent, but the effects can be exacerbated when we are under pressure or experiencing stress. During these times the jaw muscles can become over active during sleep and contract with much more force than when we are awake. This can not only cause headaches and migraines but may also cause facial pain, jaw and neck pain, sensitive teeth and poor sleep quality.

How can we help?

There are some simple yet effective treatments available. The most common form of treatment is to wear some sort of dental splint at night. At Trinity House Dental Care we have found that the most effective  form of treatment is the NTi-tss splint. This simple device fits over the front teeth and is worn at night. It works by reducing the intensity of the jaw muscle activity which brings on all the symptoms mentioned above. The device has been approved by the American Food and Drug Agency for the treatment of migraine.

The relief that this simple device can bring about can be astounding. People often report that the symptoms that have been making their lives miserable for years have disappeared and that they are sleeping well for the first time.
